About CJNY

On January 1st, 1993, I arrived in the United States of America. I heard there was an artist colony in New York called SOHO, where artists were living in big lofts, drinking cheap beer, and making great artworks. Standing on the corner between Broadway and Hudson street for the very first time, I was totally stunned by the gigantic DKNY billboard. I did not know what it stood for at that time. Ironically, it somehow seemed like a symbol for a field of dreams.

Living in New York never turned out the way that I thought it would. SOHO had become a flourishing commercial zone, and I am still between who I am and who I want myself to be. The place that I came for was long gone before I even arrived and being an artist takes much more than just making great artworks. On January 1st, 2000, I created the first version of CJNY.com and dedicated it to the memory of a place that I came for yet have never been.
