Foundation is an Ethereum-based NFT marketplace launched in 2021. Its mission is “to build a new creative economy—a world where creators can use the Ethereum blockchain to value their work in entirely new ways and build stronger connections with their supporters.” Unlike Nifty Gateway and SuperRare, the Foundation platform has an artist-centric focus and places importance on the quality of its NFTs. This invitation-only platform does not allow creators to sell NFTs on their platform unless they were invited by another creator. Moreover, the creator has to have sold at least 1 NFT on Foundation to have the ability to send an invite. This process is very different from the curator-centric process like Super Rare. To become. an artist on Super Rare, at the moment, you will need to submit an artist profile to be reviewed and considered by their internal curation team. In comparison with to 5% commission fee the Foundation charges, curator-centric platforms tend to have higher commission fees. In the case of Super Rare, the platform commission is 15%.
Considering my “readiness” at this point, I don’t feel like I have enough social media presence to apply for inclusion on Super Rare, yet. So, I decided to do a shoutout on Twitter hoping to get lucky and get an invite from someone in the NFT community. Of course, I got spammed by someone that I have never communicated with trying to sell me an invite. I am always skeptical of scams, and I am not desperate at the moment so I declined.
Luckily, an artist, Matthew Daigle, who saw my tweet kindly DM me an invite. Matthew uses AI system to create very interesting portraits. He and I followed each other on Twitter, but we weren’t regularly interacting with each other. I was pleasantly surprised and sincerely appreciate him reaching out and helping me get started.
Foundation, here I come!
